Description
"Maison du Midi", oil on canvas 27x35cm (frame 43x51cm) undated (1930s). André Lanskoy (1903-1976) is a painter of Russian origin who arrived in Paris in 1921 where he attended the academy of the Grande Chaumière. He gradually abandoned figurative painting to move towards abstractionism in the late 1930s. Close to Nicolas de Staël whom he met in 1945, Lanskoy was also a great admirer of Paul Klee and Kandinsky. This painting was bought from the Parisian dealer Jacques Dubourg in the early 1970s by a Swiss collector and then by inheritance to the current owner.
