Description
An incredible panoramic photograph of the Shanghai Bund in the 1920s by Burr photo & Co. In Shanghai. At the time the Bund was the centre of the Foreign Concessions. This period of occupation had a profound effect on the cultural identity of the city, contributing in the 1920s and 1930s to the development of the arts, cinema, theatre, and the birth of the first Chinese jazz band. This photo shows a Bund teeming with life and in full development, but the Western gunboats moored in the Huangpu River are a poignant reminder of this foreign domination. The photo is in good condition despite some creases. It has been kept rolled up. Size 70x9cm.
