The correspondence of François Constantin!
François Constantin was born in 1788, he spent his youth in intensive travels, developing his business skills. During these travels, he met Jacques-Barthélémi Vacheron. Both entrepreneurs were citizens of Geneva and shared the same passion for luxury watches.
Jacques-Barthélémi Vacheron was the owner of the previously existing company and a talented watchmaker, but lacked the marketing skills needed to develop the company internationally, François Constantin possessed all the necessary talents to make this possible and this is how, the "Vacheron & Constantin" firm was born.
On behalf of the newly created venture, he intensified his travels, during one of his trips to Turin in July 1819, he wrote these words: “Do better if possible, and that is always possible”; this is still the motto of the company nowadays.
This is a very interesting lot of 22 personal business correspondence letters originating from those travels through Italy, two of which are written and signed by François Constantin Himself, and the others are either addressed to him, or directly to the Vacheron & Constantin headquarters.
Although mostly business correspondence regarding orders of watches, in one of the letters Mr. Constantin inquired about the health of Mr. Vacheron.
An exciting and unique opportunity for an avid collector to own a piece of history from the oldest Swiss watch firm in existence.
