Description
Splendid and rare 900 silver cigarette case signed Georg Adam Scheid (G.A.S), an Austrian artist and jeweller of the late 19th/early 20th century. The upper part is beautifully enamelled with a crown of blue flowers (myosotis or forget-me-not) above a finely guilloché decoration, the back is guilloché and gilded (vermeil). The inside is also entirely gilded. Spring hinges. Exceptional piece of craftsmanship typical of the Austrian Art Nouveau period. Excellent overall condition, normal wear marks and scratches. No chips to the enamel. The gilding is fading in places. Dimensions approx. 8cm by 5.2cm, height approx. 1cm. Weight 95.6 grams.
