Description

Fine officer’s sword with a hilt known as “Swedish-style,” characteristic of the late 18th century and still in use under the Consulate. Guard: Heart-shaped shell hilt, with a crossguard with two quillons. It lacks annulets, unlike “musketeer-style” sword models. This is the characteristic feature of the so-called “Swedish-style” hilt. Pommel: Pommel in the form of a plumed helmet, characteristic of productions from the Louis XVI – Consulate period. Blade: Fine and strong blade, sturdier and broader than that of a classic court sword, allowing both thrusting and cutting. It is decorated with rocaille motifs, weapon trophies and a sun. Grip: Wire-wrapped grip, made with three types of metal wire. Origin of the name: The fashion for swords with “Swedish-style” hilts developed in France in the 18th century, notably under the influence of Swedish officers serving in French regiments, such as the Royal-Suédois regiment.
