Roman Republic. L. Marcius Philippus, 57 BC. Denarius. (ANCVS) Diademed head of Ancus Marcius to right, behind, lituus / PHILIPPVS Equestrian statue, raising right hand, set to right on aqueduct; below horse, a flower; within the arches of the aqueduct, AQVA MARC. Silver 3,76g. Crawford 425/1. Sydenham 919. Almost extremely fine. Beautifuly toned with a 19th century Indian ink collection number. Excellent, realistic "portrait" of Ancus Marcius, the 4th legendary king of Rome (c. 640–616 BC), who among many other acomplishments let build the port of Ostia and the Aqua Marcia aqueduct seen on the reverse.
