Description

HOMANN, Johann Baptist (1663–1724) Amsterdam city plan and panorama Accurater Grundris und Prospect der Weltberuhmten Hollandischen Haupt und Handels-Stadt Amsterdam. 1727. A fine example of Johann Baptist Homann's celebrated plan of Amsterdam, accompanied by an impressive bird's-eye panorama of the city. The sweeping panoramic view, embellished with lively vignettes of mercantile activity, underscores Amsterdam's status as one of Europe's great commercial capitals during the Dutch Golden Age. The map portrays the city after its dramatic expansion of the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, when Amsterdam evolved from a modest port into one of the continent's leading centers of trade, finance, and maritime power. Beautifully engraved and richly detailed, the plan is accompanied by an extensive key identifying more than 300 streets, canals, churches, public buildings, and other important landmarks, making it both a decorative and highly informative representation of eighteenth-century Amsterdam. 53x61 cm framed For shipping, please contact Geneva Collections for en estimate.
