SWITZERLAND, GENEVA, Bishopric, Guy de Faucigny (1078–1120), AR denier anonymous with Saint Peter, Forgery from the late 19th century. Obverse: + SCS PETRVS, head of the saint facing left. Reverse: + GENEVA CIVITAS, cross with four small lozenges in the angles. Gilt; Weight: 1.27 g. Aubert, 5. Following the discovery of the Pas-de-l’Echelle hoard in 1892, interest was so great that the available coins were insufficient to meet demand. According to Demole, an “Italian from Rue du Perron” engraved two pairs of dies to supply collectors. Inv: G2544
