Rare modernist sterling silver box by Giorgio Facchini, only 5 made in 1978. Signed 5/5 Giorgio Facchini, 78 13.1x13.1x5.1 cm (8cm with the mounts) 639 grams Giorgio Facchini, an esteemed Italian jeweler and sculptor, was born in Fano, Italy, in 1947. From an early age, he honed his goldsmithing skills and by his twenties had gained international acclaim. Facchini studied under sculptor Edgardo Mannucci and was influenced by the artistic traditions of Arnaldo and Gio Pomodoro, merging jewelry and sculpture through his innovative, abstract, and wearable designs crafted from gold and precious stones. Each of his creations is unique. Facchini explores the interplay of light, time, and space in his sculptural and architectural works. His futuristic designs feature geometric patterns and kinetic elements. In 1969, he designed jewelry for Pierre Cardin’s Autumn/Winter collection in Paris. He was also commissioned to create pieces for the international jewelry trade show AUREA in Florence in 1972, 1974, and 1976, aiming to inspire more creativity in mainstream jewelry design. Throughout his extensive career, Facchini has been closely linked with the Spoleto Festival, creating the festival's commemorative medal in 1974. He continues to work from his studio in Pesaro, Italy. His recent exhibitions include a 2018 showcase in Spoleto featuring works by Italian and European master artist-jewelers, and the 2019 "Scultura Aurea.
