Description

A pair of gilt bronze candlestick holders by Claude Galle . The bases and binnacles are chiselled with palmettes, the truncated cone-shaped shafts are composed of three sheathed female heads on bare feet. Claude Galle delivered two identical pairs of candlesticks to the Palais de Fontainebleau in 1804. The drawing of the model, dated 1799, is kept in the Bibliothèque des Arts décoratifs. Excellent overall condition, but one of the candlestick holders is missing the top. 36 cm without top, 38 with top.

Claude Galle delivered two identical pairs of candlesticks to the Palais de Fontainebleau in 1804. The drawing of the model, dated 1799, is kept in the Bibliothèque des Arts décoratifs.
