Description

Magnificent and rare solid silver milk jug (first-title silver, probably silver 900). This antique piece of silverware was made by the Frères Gély, one of the last goldsmiths of the "Vieux Lausanne" period. It dates from the first half of the 19th century, probably around 1830. The Frères Gély took over the tooling of the Paupus&Dautin silversmiths, considered the most prestigious of the second half of the 18th century. Marks F.G., Lausanne escutcheon and 1er (title). Excellent overall condition considering its age, scratches and traces of use, a slight deformation in the upper frieze. Height to handle approx. 11cm, overall width approx. 10cm. Weight 121 grams.
